To Rest? Or Not to Rest?

The past few years I have been very lucky to see my sports teams succeed in their respective leagues. Currently, I am so wrapped up in the Stanley Cup playoffs, I actually rearrange my life just so I can be in front of a television when the puck drops for the night. I watch all teams, all games. I claim I'm 'scouting' for the Pittsburgh Penguins. In actuality, I have no life. Thank the stars that the Magic and the Pens have had an alternate schedule, so I rarely have to decide between the two. Last night was the exception though, both teams played at the same time.

This 2010 NBA and Stanley Cup playoffs so far have played out very differently for my teams than they did in 2009. The results of the first round scared me. Why, you ask. The Magic and the Pens for the most part dominated the first round. They were both the first to move onto the second round and they both had to sit around for what seemed to be eons waiting on their opponent (Pens waited 8 days, Magic 9). Change bothers me, last year both teams had to work and work hard to get to the championship rounds. I was worried sick that the rest was going to kill them.

Obviously, my worries were ridiculous. The Pens came out in Game 1 against the Canadiens and dominated them 6-2. While the Magic took Atlanta's pride and wiped the streets of downtown and the surrounding areas with it. Magic showed their supremacy in Round 2, there is really not much more one can even say about it. So my question is, is getting a lot of rest the way to go? I'm still not sure, the time off bothers me. I guess it works though, results don't lie.

Maybe, once again in life, I'm just being selfish. Maybe I hate the rest because it gives me nothing to do. When Dwight and Sidney are sitting around that means I am too, and that bums me out. I can't complain though, both teams are making me proud. The Penguins and the Magic's nucleus' are both fairly young so hopefully this means great things for us in the future. For the first time in a long time, I am going to be home in Pennsylvania for a Stanley Cup playoff game. I am so stoked for that I can't even put it into words. Now, seeing how round 2 is playing out in both leagues, I am kind of hoping that we move on quickly again.

Man, I am so wishy-washy. One day I am scared of a lot of time off, and one day I'm praying for it. So as a sports fan, what do you think? Is excessive time off a good thing or a bad thing? I guess only time will tell. Until then, Blue and White: Ignite and Let's Go Pens!
